A Certificate in appreciation of.....

Marv Gibson (center) is the NESA chair for the council and arranges for recognition certificates from the military, veterans groups, and public officials to be presented to Eagle Scouts. One of the groups is the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. The group wanted to present Marv a certificate as an Eagle Scout and in appreciation for his work in giving out certificates. Also shown is Dave Jenner who recently completed his 60th year of Scouting. Gary White, commander of the Albert and James Lyon Camp #266 of the SUVCW, is on the right.

Progress at Camp

Buddy and I went to camp to help a little with the projects going on there. The contractors are on track with the shower house. The shower heads and electrical wiring are now in the stalls so they look like shower stalls instead of solitary confinement cells.

Doc Jewell, Bill Davis, Dan Closner, and Steve Lindahl were at work putting in posts for barrier ropes.

Buddy had a great time with Doc's dog.

Mackinac Island Scout Service Camp

Susan and I visited the Hiawathaland Council troop as the Mackinac Island Scout Service Camp. Eleven leaders and 57 Scouts stay in the Scout Barracks behind the Fort. They are responsible for flag raising and lowering and serve as tour guides while having ample time for bicycling, merit badges, swimming, shopping, and so on.

An Eagle Maker

Dan Hakala (in the blue shirt at the lower right) is retiring as Scoutmaster of Troop 360 in Harvey. He was surprised at a party planned by the parents of the Scouts from his 25 years with the troop.

Dan has been an exemplary Scoutmaster providing high adventure activities every year for the troop. They were on a three year rotation of Philmont, Canada, and the Porcupine Mountains. He was on the original Camp Staff at Camp Hiawatha in 1967.

A new Eagle

I attended Brendon Wolf"s Eagle Court of Honor in Rapid River's Troop 488. The ceremony was very well done.
